French Rags is an elegant, stylish knitwear brand with an inspiring heritage. The company was founded by Brenda French in the bedroom of her Southern California home. It quickly took off, and Brenda found herself dressing luminaries such as Hillary Clinton and Hollywood celebrities. At its peak, French Rags was manufactured in three factories that employed more than 375 people. Brenda, a native of Ashton, England, came to the United States with $500 in her pocket at the age of 21. She worked in the fashion industry in New York, and later opened her own clothing store. She, her then-husband Robert, and young son Nick moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s. When the couple divorced, Brenda made the bold move to open French Rags and juggle life as a single mom at the same time. Brenda passed away this past April. Nick French, who worked with her at French Rags for many years, will be at the Art.i.fact trunk show to share stories and help you select the perfect piece of French Rags for your wardrobe.
