Closing Reception & Fundraiser for Creativity for Peace

Closing Reception & Fundraiser for Creativity for Peace

By Patti Levey It is a fragile moment in history. We are experiencing the most charged presidential election in recent times. Police are killing – and being killed. Socio-economic and racial inequality continue to create a culture of haves and have-nots. War refugees are at the center of a humanitarian crisis. In the face of all this, the time to celebrate peace, justice, and creativity couldn’t be more pressing. Please join us on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 – 7 p.m. for a very special closing event for our current art exhibition, “Resurrecting Isis,” featuring Santa Fe artists Andrea Vargas and Patti Levey. As part of the program, we are honored to host representatives from Creativity for Peace, a Santa Fe non-profit that trains young Israeli and Palestinian women to partner as leaders by transforming anger and prejudice to mutual respect, facilitating an understanding of the other, and inspiring action to promote equality and peace. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico since 2003, and operating in the USA, Palestine, and Israel, Creativity for Peace uses dialogue and art to introduce the story of the other side and begin the compassion and healing necessary for reconciliation. Programs include a three-week summer intensive, year-round gatherings, advanced leadership training, projects facilitated by young peacemakers for their peers in Israel, Palestine, and the United States, and training of women in the early stages of their political careers. Executive Director Dottie Indyke and two of her Peace Ambassadors – young women from Santa Fe – will talk about their work and share writings from Creativity for Peace participants. In addition, Art.i.fact will donate 20% of its net sales from the day to support the important work of this organization. “Resurrecting Isis” combines the photography of Levey and the drawings and silk panels of Vargas to create a provocative, compelling space in which the artists seek to take back the name of an ancient goddess. The show’s final day is Nov. 12. Art.i.fact is located at 930 Baca St., Suite C, Santa Fe 87505.
